What Year is It?

Hi everyone, happy literal September (??). So glad to have you here. Please enjoy this second installment of Musings & Rabbitholes, and read to the end for a fun September contest + the chance to win a $100 Amazon gift card.

First, I want to thank you for being the realest. After running the last article selections by a friend and hearing her reaction, I was convinced that I had lost my mind in quarantine to the point of no longer having sound judgement about what falls into the realm of socially acceptable. I originally decided to "table the Demiurge" after realizing that an article with the potential to fundamentally shatter people's foundational beliefs about the nature of reality might be "too much." Ultimately, my own procrastination didn't leave me any other choice and it ended up being the biggest hit. If you missed the first edition and want in, don't worry- you can still catch it here.

And now, Edition II of:

Musings & Rabbitholes;

a slew of interesting things to enhance your life experience.

The Curious World of Dog Groomers

My dear friend Scott Lee is working on a pilot for a mainstream "animal-centric" network about dog groomers, a niche on the spectrum of human experience (albeit, probably an outlier) he describes as "the crazy cat ladies of the dog world." Having no idea this existed, my brain exploded after learning about it, swiftly falling into the groomer corner of the internet.

Can dogs become emotionally abused?

DIY Liposomes

I have been making my own liposomes lately. What the heck are liposomes, you may ask? Liposomes are basically what happen when you encase a nutrient in a lipid. This is beneficial for a multitude of reasons, one of which is making said nutrients more bioavailable and longer acting in the body, also allowing them to penetrate through cell walls. It becomes pretty expensive to buy pre-made, and the 'rona panic created a scarcity so I decided to make my own.

I found the nerdiest, best website for making your own Liposomal Vitamin C:

Wet A** Rabbithole

Lately and deeply unfortunately, I haven't been able to take my attention away from WAP, creating somewhat of a WAP rabbithole. In case you've been living under a rock, WAP is an acronym for Wet A** P****, made popular by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion in their latest hit song of the same name.

I have many feelings and opinions about this latest piece of popular artwork but the most I'll include here is that it's a little harrowing to think that just 20 years ago, Genie in a Bottle and ...Baby One More Time were seen as scandalous and over-sexualized, and now content like the WAP music video is celebrated. Where are we trending as a culture if this is considered "normal"?

I'll also say that it feels like we're living in some sort of inverted dystopian timeline of the multiverse where repeated subliminal lyrics of "there's some whores in this house" and women singing about depersonalized sexual organs while exposing their full breasts and butts on camera is considered "empowering" instead of the actual definition of sexual and self-objectification. But maybe I'm just old fashioned.

Crushing blow to female dignity aside, WAP has created some brilliant memes and cultural moments. Here are my favorites:

Listen to this one with the sound on for the Ben Shapiro remix.

I recently watched John Carpenter's action sci-fi cult classic, They Live. I thought it was an interesting (and accurate) statement on the culture, especially during these precarious times.

Another dear friend and musical genius otherwise known as DD Walker, compiled a playlist of Pop + Indie Vibe Check(s) for me (and you). The jams are truly stellar; feel-good, unique, and even a little dancey with a strong homage to the 90's. I can't stop listening to it- 100% a certified vibe.

Speaking of the 90's, the 25th anniversary of my all-time favorite film ever inspires me to share this list of 25 Little Known Facts About Clueless. For example, the creator actually sat in on classes at Beverly Hills High School to research the way students spoke. Brilliant.

You're the best.

Thank you for reading this. What rabbitholes have you been following? Send me your latest, would love to join you and maybe feature one here too.'

In Truth & Love,

Morgan May
